Mayor David Miller Responds To Criticism Over Length Of Strike, Sick Bank Provision

The important thing to the 'sheeple' is that they need to bash Miller. True discussion as to what really happened, isn't of any real importance.

After reading the details of the deal, I'd hardly call this a victory for the union, by any measure. And not that I thought they deserved it. I think it's time to look at privatizing the services, but we won't get that under Miller.

There have been idiots willing to vote for the brainless, like Jane Pitfield, simply because they hate Miller.

Personally, I think Miller is rather lame. But I'd prefer to wait for a suitable candidate that's actually better than Miller, before I change my vote.

So what really happened in the cupe settlement

There are bloggers and news sites speculating about the deal Miller signed with cupe a few days ago, and the word seems to be that Miller caved. Of course, predictably unhyphenated is just shitting himself silly, as usual without any facts or details.

After some reading, I was able to find this conversation with Marcus Gee at the globe and mail, where the first speculation was this:

Marcus Gee: As we understand it, yes: workers will be able to keep their sick days and cash them in at retirement or cash them in now. New hires, though, will not get to bank sick days at all. So it's a gradual phase out of the old sick-leave plan.

So instead of killing the banked sick days it's only for new hires. Well, lukewarm, but not quite the stand up to the unions we were hoping for.

Ah. Later down the conversation, this little tidbit comes to light...

Apparently they will be able to keep the banked days, but not to bank any more. But we won't know for certain till at least tomorrow.

Oh. Well if THIS is true, then did Miller actually cave to the union?

As the trash piles up here in the city of Toronto, insects, rodents, and resident tempers are rising as we reach the 3rd week of the strike. Most of the people I talk to here in Toronto pretty have the attitude of, "fuck the union, let them rot before we give them what they want. Most of us are fighting to keep our jobs never mind have 18 sick days a year to bank". I feel pretty much the same way. On my street, it doesn't help that the guys who do the pickup here a rude, foul mouthed assholes, who regularly throw the bins all over the street, twice breaking the green bin so I had to replace it. I told one of them to stop throwing the green bin like that and I was told to "fuck off".

Right then. Fuck off is right.

Near the beginning of the strike, McGuinty said he wasn't going to legislate them back. I say let's start putting our garbage next to McGuinty's house. Maybe that lame do nothing premier might get the message about then eh?

Think back to the days that followed 9/11, the questions that arose as to why, the Bush administration, did nothing with the intelligence it had regarding the attack on the twin towers. Bush had been in office longer than Obama is now, and we were pretty much stonewalled with, "It's all Clinton and those lefty's fault!"

Bush inherited a balanced budget, much lower debt, (an understatement) no serious crisis as he took office, and the neo cons refuse to accept any blame, whatsoever, for any fumbling of the ball in dealing with the threats they received prior to 9/11.

For months now, pretty much weeks into Obama's administration taking power, we have been treated to shrill cries of the threat of socialism, the massive bungling of handling the financial crisis, and now his failure in dealing with the threats that NK and Iran poses.

It's utterly astounding, how these brainless fools, could completely forget that Bush, had 8 YEARS to deal with all of this, and completely FAILED to address ANY of it at all! And, left us with the most incredible financial meltdown, in America's history! (oh and somehow the righteous right would like you to believe that somehow this was the fault of a democrat government 8 YEARS ago!).
