Laurie Halse Anderson Signing

This Monday, the greatly lauded YA and children's author Laurie Halse Anderson came to The Loft Literary Center for a reading and signing. She's written books such as Fever 1793, Speak, Twisted, Catalyst, Prom, Chains, and Wintergirls. She writes both light and heavy books and has received numerous awards for her work. Needless to say, I was extremely excited that she was coming and even got a few of my friends to come with me. Gotta spread the love of reading, eh? :P

Surprisingly, there weren't that many people there. My friends and I were the oldest teens in the audience, I think. Which is odd because we're really not that old (see above photographed immaturity). There was a big group of fifth graders there with their English class. They had read Chains for school and so, since they were basically the majority of the crowd, a lot of the talk focused on that book which I'm definitely not complaining about because it was really interesting. I have yet to read Chains but it's in my pile.

Laurie was really peppy and entertaining and it was definitely a fun event to go to, in general.

I have a fondness for author events because it takes these people that I normally put on a pedestal and shows them how they really are. They're just like everybody else. It's kind of a fun thing to see. This is my fourth author event that I've been to, with another one coming at the end of the month.

I love all you author people out there. Come to Minnesota. :)
